Sarah Rhys - Artist

Sarah is a qualified teacher as well as a practising artist and has been involved with education since 1994 both in France and Britain. Being both an artist and a teacher, Sarah is in a good position to be able to draw from both worlds and synthesise courses that engage students in new and interesting ways.

Every situation is different and existing workshops can be adapted to meet specific needs or requirements. Alternatively Sarah can work with you to develop entirely new workshops.

Art is an environment of ideas. Creativity is everyone's natural birthright.

Contemporary Art Practice

Sarah designs Art workshops that introduce or relate to Contemporary Art practice. This could involve disassembly of objects to make an art piece, process painting, experimental drawing and painting techniques or making work that relates to political or global issues or identity. This would be appropriate for schools (all levels) or galleries.

Animation

Sarah runs animation workshops in schools. Animation can be linked to literacy, ICT and cultural activities as well as Art. Student write a story-line, make a storyboard and then make a 2D or 3D animation. This teaches group work skills, creative decision making, and insight into the essential narrative.

Gallery Educator

Sarah is an active member of Engage, a visual arts organisation that encourages engagement with the Arts. Sarah offers school trips to galleries, as a gallery educator and involves the pupils with activities such as interpreting the work and using it as a springboard for discussion, creativity and collaboration. A related workshop can then be run at the school.
